Continental Grain Company
Continental Grain Company (CGC) was established in 1813 as a grain trading firm based in Arlon, Belgium, and grew to become one of the largest privately held companies in the world.
Drawing on two centuries of innovation and achievement, CGC brings together very successful and experienced agribusinesses. CGC owns Wayne Farms LLC, the sixth largest vertically integrated poultry company in the USA. CGC is also a major shareholder in Smithfield Foods, Inc., the largest pork processor and hog producer in the USA. Overseas, CGC has operations in several countries worldwide through various subsidiaries and joint ventures.
In 2008, CGC announced the formation of Arlon Group, a private investment group that invests CGC's permanent capital alongside select third-party capital across multiple strategies to create long-term value.
